Spotify is experimenting with an AI-driven capability to convert podcasts into various languages.

Spotify Technology is currently trialing an AI-driven feature to translate podcasts into various languages, including French, German, and Spanish.

This innovation is powered by Microsoft-backed OpenAI’s cutting-edge voice generation technology, enabling translated podcast versions to closely replicate the original speaker’s style for a more authentic experience compared to traditional dubbing methods.

Notably, popular podcasts like “Armchair Expert” by actor Dax Shepard, “Diary Of A CEO” hosted by Dragons’ Den mogul Steven Bartlett, and “The Bill Simmons Podcast” by sportswriter Bill Simmons will become available in translated versions. These voice translations will initially cover a select number of episodes from the catalog and future releases, with potential plans for expansion to broaden the shows’ audiences.

This announcement represents Spotify’s latest effort to enhance revenue, leveraging the growing popularity of AI technology, especially since the introduction of ChatGPT.

The company has also placed a strong emphasis on its podcast business, aiming to attract more advertisers through increased engagement with this format. Earlier this year, Spotify raised its premium ad-free service prices in over 50 countries, including the US, UK, and Ireland.
