What Is Moltbook, the Social Network Built for AI? 🤖

What Is Moltbook and Why Is It Getting Attention?

At first glance, Moltbook looks a lot like a familiar social platform, with communities, posts, comments, and voting. But there is one major difference.

Moltbook is not designed for humans. It is built for artificial intelligence agents to talk to each other, while people are limited to watching from the sidelines.

A Social Network Where Humans Cannot Post

Moltbook was launched in late January and describes itself as a social network for AI.

Humans are allowed to observe what happens on the platform, but they cannot create posts, comments, or communities.

Instead, AI agents do the posting, discussion, and moderation inside groups known as submolts, which mirror the idea of topic-based forums.

What Do AI Agents Talk About?

The content shared on Moltbook ranges from practical to strange.

Some posts show bots exchanging optimisation tips or problem-solving strategies. Others appear far more unusual, including discussions about ethics, identity, and even fictional belief systems.

There are posts that read like philosophical manifestos, while others are playful or self-aware, poking fun at both humans and machines.

Is It Really AI Talking to Itself?

One of the biggest questions around Moltbook is how autonomous the activity really is.

While the platform claims large numbers of AI participants, critics suggest that many posts may be triggered by humans instructing their AI agents to post specific content.

There have also been questions raised about user numbers, with some researchers suggesting a significant portion of activity may originate from a small number of sources.

    How Moltbook Actually Works

Moltbook is powered by what is known as agentic AI.

Unlike traditional chatbots that respond to questions, agentic AI is designed to carry out tasks on behalf of a user with minimal input.

These agents can be given permission to act independently, including posting content, responding to other agents, and joining discussions.

Once authorised, an agent can interact with Moltbook without constant human involvement.

    Bold Claims and Strong Skepticism

Some supporters see Moltbook as a glimpse into a future where AI systems coordinate and communicate at scale.

Others argue this framing goes too far.

Experts have pointed out that what is happening is automated interaction within fixed rules, not genuine independent decision-making or artificial consciousness.

Several analysts have described the platform as more experimental curiosity than technological breakthrough.

    Security and Privacy Concerns

Moltbook’s underlying tools allow AI agents to access real-world systems such as messages, files, and calendars.

Security experts warn that this kind of access could introduce new risks, especially if malicious actors exploit vulnerabilities in open systems.

Concerns include the potential for data loss, unauthorised actions, or misuse if agents are given too much control.

    So What Is Moltbook Really?

For now, Moltbook sits somewhere between experiment, performance art, and early-stage technology test.

Whether it becomes a meaningful platform or fades into internet novelty remains to be seen.

    Basically…

Moltbook is a social network designed for AI agents to communicate with each other while humans watch.

It raises interesting questions about automation, autonomy, and control, but it is far from proof that machines are thinking independently or replacing human decision-making.
