WhatsApp’s Latest Privacy Feature: Blocking Profile Picture Screenshots on iOS
WhatsApp, the Meta-owned app, is introducing a new feature aimed at restricting users from taking screenshots of profile pictures on iOS.
Upon attempting to capture a screenshot of a profile photo, users will receive a notification on their screen indicating that such actions have been prohibited. This feature was revealed in an image shared by WABetaInfo.
Enhanced Privacy Protection
This measure is being implemented to safeguard the privacy of all users on the platform.
By preventing users from capturing and sharing profile photos without the owner’s consent, this feature adds an additional layer of privacy protection, according to the report.
Although individuals may still capture images using other devices or cameras, disabling the screenshot feature within the app will undoubtedly reduce the unauthorized sharing of profile photos.
Reducing Unauthorized Sharing
By prohibiting the taking of screenshots without permission, this new feature from Meta’s WhatsApp app aims to mitigate the risk of profile photos being misused or distributed.
Additional Feature Testing
Furthermore, WhatsApp is also in the process of testing another feature on Android that will provide users with a “filter” to swiftly access their favorite chats from the chats tab.
