In a remarkable incident in her Delaware residence, Natalie Nasatka experienced severe exhaustion and blurred vision, leading to a loss of consciousness. In this critical moment, Nasatka smartly utilized the Emergency SOS feature on her Apple Watch to alert 911. This timely action proved to be a lifesaver as the fire department, upon arrival, administered oxygen and revived her in the ambulance.
Further investigations revealed alarmingly high carbon monoxide levels in Nasatka’s apartment. She reported, ‘The fire department’s monitor showed 80 parts per million of carbon monoxide, a dangerously high concentration.’ She suspects a malfunctioning heater, a common source of carbon monoxide leaks during winter, was to blame.
Nasatka admits the absence of a carbon monoxide detector in her apartment, a device which could have warned her much earlier about the escalating danger.
For Apple Watch users, it’s crucial to know how to activate the Emergency SOS feature:
1. Press and hold the side button of your watch (located below the Digital Crown) until you see the Emergency Call slider.
2. Either drag the Emergency Call slider to initiate the call or continue holding the side button to start an automatic countdown, after which your watch dials emergency services.
3. Apple informs that during an Emergency SOS call, the Apple Watch automatically contacts local emergency services and shares your location. After the call concludes, it sends a text message with your current location to your designated emergency contacts.
