Exciting news for iPhone users! WhatsApp has unveiled a new feature that allows sharing photos and videos in their original quality through the messaging platform.
In the recent update, version 23.24.73, WhatsApp has introduced an option to send media files without compromising their quality. This improvement comes shortly after the previous update that enabled users to send media in high resolution or “HD quality,” which still involved compression.
The latest feature bypasses compression entirely by enabling photos and videos to be shared as files, preserving their pristine quality. The rollout of this new option is set to occur gradually over the upcoming weeks, so not all users may see it immediately on their devices.
To use this feature:
- Open an existing chat or start a new one in WhatsApp.
- Tap the “+” icon located to the left of the text input field.
- Select Document โ Choose Photo or Video.
- Pick the desired media and confirm by tapping the blue arrow. Please note the 2GB limit for files sent using this feature.
Once sent, the chat window won’t display previews of the media. However, recipients can tap the files to view them. Although WhatsApp is testing a similar feature for Android, there’s no specific information available regarding its release date.
