Customers have expressed their dissatisfaction with Sainsbury’s due to a technical snag that prevented them from using their Nectar points for their festive shopping.
Many have voiced their concerns over social media, indicating that this issue has significantly disrupted their holiday budget plans.
Reports have emerged of shoppers struggling to redeem their points in the run-up to Christmas, leading to heightened frustration during this crucial shopping period.
Nectar, Sainsbury’s loyalty programme, allows customers to accumulate points with each purchase. These points are often saved throughout the year to splurge on holiday essentials like chocolates, turkeys, and gifts.
A significant number of customers have reported being unable to redeem points worth hundreds of pounds, leaving them financially strained.
On a platform previously known as Twitter, one customer lamented, ‘An error in your system failed to redeem £90 of Nectar points, resulting in my entire Christmas shopping being charged to my debit card.’
Another expressed disappointment, stating, ‘Thanks to Sainsbury’s for upsetting my Christmas budget. I redeemed £185 of Nectar points for my Christmas shopping, but they weren’t credited. Although Sainsbury’s provided vouchers, there’s a £99.99 limit per order. Now I have to find an additional £100.’
For every £1 spent in-store or online, customers earn one Nectar point. The scheme also extends to fuel purchases at Sainsbury’s stations.
Sainsbury’s has introduced Nectar pricing for select items, offering discounts to customers who use their cards at checkout.
A third shopper shared their experience on social media: ‘Encountering technical issues while finalising my Christmas order at Sainsbury’s using Nectar points. Extremely dissatisfied.’
Another echoed this sentiment: ‘I’ve had similar issues for several days.’
One customer even considered switching to a competitor due to the ongoing technical problems: ‘After saving Nectar points all year for a Christmas order, the system failure is frustrating! This might push our next Christmas shopping to Asda.’
Another shared their frustration about saving points for the ‘big Christmas shop’, while a different shopper mentioned limitations in redeeming their points through the app.
Responding to these concerns, a Sainsbury’s spokesperson informed MailOnline, ‘A small number of customers are facing difficulties in redeeming their Nectar points online. We urge those affected to contact our careline team for assistance. We are working swiftly to resolve this issue and apologise for any inconvenience caused.'”
