In the vibrant neon era of the ’80s, music videos burst onto TV screens, transforming beloved songs into visual spectacles that reshaped how fans connected with artists worldwide. Since then, music videos have not only become a vital avenue for fans to discover and adore artists, but iconic videos have also ingrained themselves in pop culture, sparking discussions and influencing trends.

As a platform where fans delve deeper into an artist’s music, Spotify is thrilled to introduce music videos in beta for Premium users across 11 markets. This addition offers yet another way to enrich the connection between artists and fans.

“Music videos often play a pivotal role in capturing listeners’ attention and transforming them from casual listeners to devoted fans,” says Charlie Hellman, Vice President and Head of Music Product at Spotify. “They’re an essential component of many artists’ arsenals, making Spotify, where over half a billion people choose to listen to music, a natural home for them.”

Through features like Canvas, Clips, Artist Bios, Live Events, and Merch, Spotify empowers artists to engage with both new and existing fans in meaningful ways. Notably, Canvas visuals have proven to boost engagement, with users sharing, saving, or adding songs to playlists at higher rates.

The beta version of music videos on Spotify launches today with a curated selection of music videos, featuring hits from global sensations like Ed Sheeran, Doja Cat, and Ice Spice, as well as local favorites like Aluna and Asake.

To enjoy music videos on Spotify:

    • Premium users in the U.K., Germany, Italy, the Netherlands, Poland, Sweden, Brazil, Colombia, Philippines, Indonesia, and Kenya can access the feature.
    • Simply toggle the “Switch to Video” option on supported music tracks via the iOS, Android, desktop, or TV device.
    • The music video will seamlessly play from the beginning within the Now Playing view.
    • To return to background listening, just tap “Switch to Audio.”
    • For an immersive experience, rotate your mobile device to landscape mode for full-screen viewing.

As they embark on this beta journey, they’re committed to refining and expanding the music video catalog based on feedback from users and artists alike. Stay tuned as they strive to bring this feature to more users and regions in the future.
