Cristiano Ronaldo has officially made history by becoming the first individual to reach an astonishing 1 billion followers across his various social media platforms.
How the Numbers Stack Up
The total count is based on the sum of his followers across Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, and popular Chinese platforms like Weibo and Kuaishou. However, this doesn’t equate to 1 billion unique individuals, as many fans follow him on multiple platforms, and there are some fake accounts, also known as bots, included in the tally.
A Remarkable Achievement
Despite this, social media expert Paolo Pescatore, from PP Foresight, called it a “staggering milestone” that both media and brands would be keeping a close eye on.
“What an incredible achievement. It really emphasises the major shift happening in media,” he explained in a BBC interview. He further pointed out that this milestone highlights the “power of technology to engage with new, younger audiences.”
Beating the Competition
On the football pitch, Ronaldo is known for his fierce rivalry with Argentinian superstar Lionel Messi. But when it comes to social media, there’s no competition – Messi trails behind with a still-impressive 623 million followers.
It’s not just sports stars that Ronaldo is outpacing. He surpasses some of the biggest names in entertainment, including Justin Bieber, Taylor Swift, and Selena Gomez.
Even top online personalities can’t compete. MrBeast, currently the world’s leading YouTuber, follows at a distant 543 million followers.
