Apple Introduces a New AirTag With Improved Findability
Apple has announced a new version of AirTag, bringing improved findability, a longer tracking range, and a louder built-in speaker.
The updated AirTag builds on the original item tracker launched in 2021 and is designed to make it even easier for users to locate everyday items such as keys, bags, wallets, and luggage using the Find My app.
Louder Sound and Greater Range
The new AirTag features an updated internal design that makes its speaker around 50 percent louder than the previous generation.
This allows users to hear their AirTag from much farther away, helping locate items hidden in places like sofa cushions, drawers, or bags.
Combined with improved Precision Finding and a new alert sound, Apple says the new AirTag is significantly easier to track down in busy or cluttered environments.
Improved Precision Finding
The latest AirTag uses an upgraded Ultra Wideband chip to improve Precision Finding accuracy.
Users can now be guided to their lost items from up to 50 percent farther away than before, using on-screen directions, sound, and haptic feedback.
For the first time, Precision Finding is also available on compatible Apple Watch models, allowing users to locate an AirTag directly from their wrist.
Find My Network and Item Sharing
If an AirTag is out of Bluetooth range of its paired device, it can still be located using the Find My network.
This network relies on nearby Apple devices to anonymously detect an AirTag’s location and relay it securely back to the owner.
The new AirTag also works with Share Item Location, a feature that lets users temporarily share the location of a misplaced item with trusted third parties, such as airlines.
Apple says this feature has already helped reduce baggage delays and lost luggage incidents, with access automatically ending once the item is recovered or after seven days.
Designed With Privacy and Security in Mind
Apple says AirTag continues to include strong protections against unwanted tracking.
Location data is encrypted end to end, is not stored on the device itself, and can only be accessed by the owner.
The AirTag is designed specifically for tracking objects, not people or pets, and uses rotating Bluetooth identifiers and cross-platform alerts to help prevent misuse.
Environmental Improvements
The new AirTag has been designed with sustainability in mind.
It uses a high percentage of recycled materials, including recycled plastics, rare earth elements, and gold in its internal components.
Packaging is fully fibre-based and recyclable, and the AirTag remains compatible with all existing AirTag accessories.
Pricing and Availability
The new AirTag is available to order now through Apple’s website and app, with in-store availability rolling out shortly.
Pricing remains unchanged at $29 for a single AirTag or $99 for a four-pack, with free personalised engraving still included.
The new AirTag requires a compatible iPhone or iPad running the latest software, with certain features also supported on newer Apple Watch models.
Basically…
Apple’s new AirTag keeps the same familiar design but makes it easier to find lost items thanks to a louder speaker, longer range, and improved Precision Finding.
With stronger privacy protections, better support for luggage recovery, and no price increase, it is a solid upgrade for anyone who relies on AirTag to keep track of their belongings.
